Why I Turn Almost Everything Into a Game — And You Might Want To, Too

Apr 14, 2025

In my house, most things are a game.

🧺 Clean laundry? That’s a special delivery service straight to my kids’ doorsteps (a.k.a. their rooms).

🪥 Teeth brushing? We run a tight ship at Dr. Mom’s Dental Office — punctuality is key!

🥞 Breakfast? We’re running a cozy bed & breakfast, where my kids submit their food requests and pay with pretend money — turning mealtime into a mini math lesson.

It’s not just chaos (although there’s definitely a bit of that). It’s strategy. Because when things feel like a game, they’re just more fun.

And honestly? The same goes for work.

The Power of Play at Work

When tasks start to feel tedious, when motivation dips, or when your day starts to feel like you’re wading through molasses — try gamifying it.

Inject a little fun. Add a dose of humour. Create light-hearted competition or build in quirky team rituals.

You don’t need a full-blown rewards system or a leaderboard to do this (unless you want one!). Sometimes it’s as simple as:

  • Turning a sales challenge into a bingo card

  • Naming your team Slack channels after reality TV shows or inside jokes

  • Holding “power hour” sprints with fun music and silly virtual backgrounds

  • Starting Monday meetings with a one-minute trivia quiz

  • Letting the team earn small perks or tokens for completed tasks

These playful moments can completely shift the energy. They bring joy, reduce stress, and make even the most mundane days more manageable. Plus, people are more likely to want to show up and contribute when there’s a bit of spark in the air.

Your Team Will Thank You — and So Will You

Play is powerful. It builds connection, boosts engagement, and makes the hard stuff feel a little lighter. So let’s bring back the joy — one playful moment at a time. ✨Need help figuring out how to gamify your workplace? Reach out — I’d love to brainstorm with you!
